Congratulations to Michelle Williams for picking up a nomination for Best Actress in My Week with Marilyn!
The 84th Annual Academy Awards will air live from Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on ABC, Sunday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. ET. Billy Crystal, returning for the first time in eight years, will serve as host, for the ninth time.
“I am so grateful to be acknowledged by the Academy for my work, which was made possible by the support of our director Simon Curtis and the camaraderie of a terrific ensemble of actors – a special congratulations to Kenneth Branagh – and the fearless Harvey Weinstein. This role has been the challenge and privilege of a lifetime. I would like to think that the recognition our film has received by the Academy is a testament to Marilyn’s legacy.” – Michelle Williams (Best Actress, “My Week With Marilyn”)
Michelle is up for a Orange British Academy of Film and Television Award for Best Actress in My Week with Marilyn. The film was also recognized in the categories of OUTSTANDING BRITISH FILM, SUPPORTING ACTOR (Kenneth Branagh), SUPPORTING ACTRESS (Judi Dench), COSTUME DESIGN, and MAKE UP & HAIR. The ceremony is on Sunday 12 February at London’s Royal Opera House.
Thanks to 6-year-old Matilda Ledger, Michelle Williams beat out A-listers like Charlize Theron and Kate Winslet in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category at Sunday’s 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
“I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and so the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life,” Williams said during her heartfelt acceptance speech.
Triumphing over Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) and Jodie Foster (Carnage), the 31-year-old My Week With Marilyn star continued to praise her daughter, whom she welcomed in 2005 with then-boyfriend Heath Ledger.
“I want to say thank you for sending me off to this job every day with a hug and a kiss. I couldn’t have done it any other way. It made me so excited to come home at night,” Williams told Matilda. “And for suffering for six months of bedtime stories, where all the princesses were read aloud in a Marilyn Monroe-sounding voice.”
In addition to thanking her celeb BFF Busy Philipps and movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, Williams also expressed her gratitude to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for bestowing her with the same Award Monroe won “more than 50 years ago.”
